Bernie Ginger
League Founder
1932 – 2021

Bernie was a co-founder of the West Mall Oldtimers Hockey League and dedicated his time to its growth and success through four decades. He served as President of the League before stepping down to serve as the Convenor for the Platinum Division, a role he faithfully performed even as he battled with health issues in recent years. Bernie was also one of the driving forces behind the West Mall Christmas Tournament that ran for twenty-five consecutive years, raising more than $222,000 for local charities. Bernie passed away at the age of 89.

Ralph Currie
League Founder

Ralph is a co-founder of the West Mall Oldtimers League and continues to serve as Executive Vice President even though he has retired from active playing. He was a goalie in the Platinum Division up until the age of 81 when he reluctantly decided to hang up his pads after 35 years. Ralph was instrumental in helping to organize the West Mall Christmas Tournament, and played on the West Mall Golden Oldies tournament team. Ralph moved to Etobicoke with his wife Rosemary in 1958 where they raised their five children. With his children’s interest in sports, he became a community volunteer coaching teams in hockey and lacrosse.

Geoff Brooks
League Treasurer
1948 – 2019

Geoff was a long-time member of the West Mall Oldtimers Executive Committee, and served as League Treasurer. For 25 years he was a key member of the Christmas Tournament organizing committee which raised over $220,000 for local charities. He also played on two of the League’s affiliate teams, the Fossils and later the West Mall Golden Oldies. Geoff enjoyed a highly successful career as a certified accountant, in addition to being an entrepreneur, avid golfer, lover of theatre, and bon vivant. Geoff passed away at the age of 71.
