City Labour Disruption

Once again we are facing the threat of a labour disruption which might result in the closing of all cityrinks. Negotiators with CUPE 416, which represents outside workers such as the staff in water and parks departments, are in negotiation with the City over a new contract. The workers are in a legal strike position — and the city in a legal lockout position — at midnight on Feb. 19 - although negotiations could continue past the deadline. If a walk-out/lock-out does occur, our playoff season might have to be temporarily suspended, or cancelled, for the first time in the 34 history of this League. As developments occur, we will keep you apprized, both through this newsletter, and on the web site.
